Tips for the Charter Flights

Most charter flights are quite short, so not too much preparation is required.

  • If  you are at all prone to motion sickness you may wish to take non-drowsy Dramamine (or equivalent) before you fly. Read the directions, as most of these medications must be taken an hour or more before they are needed. Also, sucking on a piece of candied ginger helps quite a bit (bring this from home). Pressure point wrist bands (Sea-bands) may be effective as well.
  • If the noise of the small planes is bothersome, wear your earplugs.
  • Take cool water or a drink with you, as sometimes the planes are warm.
  • If you have a fear of flying in small planes, and there is only one pilot, ask to sit with them in the front seat. Watching the pilot fly is fun and keeps your mind occupied. Often s/he won’t mind if you ask lots of questions. All “bush pilots” are highly qualified and experienced. If you would like to speak with a fellow nervous flier for reassurance, please call Classic Africa 1-888-227-8311 and ask for Margaret.
  • If you have an acute fear of flying consider taking a prescription tranquilizer such as Atavan or Klonopin, if needed, before the flight.  Natural alternatives include Anxiety Soother tincture by Herb Pharm – two dropperfuls under the tongue, or Bach’s Rescue Remedy.
  • Remember to look out the window. The small planes fly relatively low and the views of the landscape and often animals can be spectacular!
