Baggage Limits
Please refer to your packing list for your specific baggage weight allowance and size restrictions.
Scheduled Versus Charter Flights
Scheduled flights are operated by large carriers (e.g. South African Airways, Air Botswana, Air Namibia, Kenya Airways, etc.), and fly between major city airports. Your itinerary lists luggage allowances based on the specific carriers in your itinerary - as a rule, passengers on these flights are allowed one piece of checked luggage with a maximum weight of 44lbs, plus additional carry-on luggage with a maximum of 18lbs. Your carry-on bag needs to have total dimensions (length + breadth + height) of 46" or less. There is no restriction on the nature of checked luggage (i.e. hard and wheeled bags are fine).
Charter flights are operated by small charter companies (e.g. Federal Air, Wilderness Air, Safarilink, Coastal Air, etc.) and carry passengers to/from/between safari camps and lodges. Luggage allowance differs quite widely among charter companies, so please see the specifics in your itinerary and ask us if you have any questions. In all cases, the luggage allowance on charter flights is more restrictive than for scheduled flights, so you will need to pack according to the limitations imposed by these flights, unless you choose to store luggage (see below).
Passenger Weight
Passengers weighing more than 220lbs who have charter flights on their itinerary must please advise us in advance so that necessary arrangements can be made. For safety reasons, charter companies will often require that an extra seat be purchased on all charter flights in these circumstances.
Luggage Weight
For safety and passenger comfort, the luggage limits on charter flights are strictly enforced. If necessary, it is sometimes possible to book an extra seat on the aircraft to accommodate extra baggage, but this is expensive and (except for very serious photographers) not typically worth the additional cost. Luggage storage at major city airports can be arranged at an additional cost - please contact us in advance of travel to make arrangements.
