Baggage Safety

We recommend that you minimize the number of valuable and/or breakable items that you take with you on safari. Items such as jewelry, expensive clothing/shoes, and electronic devices won't add value to your safari experience, but will attract unwanted attention. Keep electronics to a minimum: camera equipment and a well-protected smart phone or tablet for reading / entertainment on the long international flights is as much as we would recommend. These items should not be put in your checked luggage at any point during your journey.

Scheduled Flights

On all scheduled flights, please do not place any valuables (including electronic equipment, cameras, etc.) in checked luggage because they will be subject to pilfering by baggage handlers at major airports. Ideally, checked luggage should be shrink wrapped (facilities for this exist at all major airports in the region - payment is in cash) or locked - TSA approved locks are not required on intra-Africa flights, but will be required for your international flights departing from and returning to the USA.

The bottom line is that it is not safe to place anything of value in your checked luggage on scheduled flights - these items should be taken with you as carry-on, and only clothing and toiletries should be packed in your checked bag.

Charter Flights

This same level of caution is not necessary for the charter flights that will carry you between safari camps as the bags never really leave your sight. We do, however, recommend keeping delicate equipment (cameras and electronics) as well as valuables such as cash and passports with you as carry on for charter flights as well.
