Electricity and Adapters

All electrical current at city hotels is delivered at 220 volts. Most safari camps and lodges also offer 220v electricity, typically in guest rooms but sometimes only in the common areas.

Converters / Chargers

The vast majority of modern electronic devices (digital cameras, smart phones, tablets, etc.) have chargers featuring built-in converters that enable them to utilize electrical current from 110v to 240v. In other words, you almost certainly do not need to take converters with you (please just check the specific appliances you plan to take, to make sure of this). To ensure reliable charging, we strongly recommend that you use brand-name cords and chargers - e.g., if you have an iPhone, take Apple chargers and cords rather than inexpensive (and less reliable) after-market copies; use Canon chargers for Canon cameras, Nikon chargers for Nikon cameras, etc.

Adapters

To enable your charger(s) to attach to the wall sockets you will need adapter plugs. Virtually all hotels and safari properties provide these, but it's not a bad idea to take your own, both as backup in case the adapter in your room is missing, and because having your own adapter will probably enable you to charge more than one device at a time.
